Search for new GSPCB Chairperson, Member Secretary begins

Three-year-long term of the Chairman Ganesh Shetgaonkar is coming to an end

Panjim: As the three-year-long term of the incumbent chairman of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) Ganesh Shetgaonkar comes to an end, the State government has initiated the process to appoint a new Chairperson and Member Secretary (MS) of the Pollution Board. 

The Directorate of Environment has invited applications for the post of Chairperson and MS, for which knowledge of environmental sciences and environmental management has been made mandatory. The candidate has to also be a resident of Goa for at least 15 years, and the knowledge of Konkani is mandatory while that of Marathi is desirable. The last date of application is October 29. 

Following the directions received  from the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal (NGT) , the State government had then framed the appointment rules and guidelines for the two posts, earlier this year. 

According to new guidelines, there would be 19 members’ board instead of 16 members that includes Chairperson, MS and seventeen members to be nominated by the State government to represent interest of agriculture, fishery or industry or trade and local authorities functioning within the State.

The age limit of the applicant should not exceed 60 years. The recruitment would be done by the Selection Committee on contract or deputation basis.
