In a tragic event, a 27-year-old man named Farooq Usman from Uccasaim reportedly jumped from the new Mandovi bridge on Tuesday night. Following this, authorities immediately launched an extensive search and rescue operation to locate Usman.
His brother, who was present at the bridge during the incident, alerted the Panjim police. Led by the Fire and Emergency Services, ongoing efforts aim to locate and recover Farooq Usman.
Reports suggest that he was with a group of friends before taking the leap. “We were passing through the other side and noticed something had happened. By the time we reached here, the body was already swept away by the water. He was seen with a group, but we’re unsure of the details surrounding the incident,” said an eyewitness.
Despite attempts by casino employees with boats to locate Farooq, their efforts were unsuccessful. Fire and emergency services temporarily halted search operations on Tuesday night due to a lack of equipment and divers but resumed on Wednesday morning.
