PANJIM: Social activist Advocate Aires Rodrigues on Tuesday submitted a written representation to the State Election Commissioner (SEC) that Margao Police Inspector Filomeno Costa may be in conflict of interest during the ensuing general panchayat elections scheduled for August 10.
In his representation, Adv Rodrigues has stated that he was constrained to seek the intervention of the SEC despite PI Costa being known as an upright officer.
Pointing out that Margao PI Filomeno is a resident of Davorlim village, which is partly within the jurisdiction of Margao Police Station, Rodrigues has drawn the attention of the SEC that he has been informed that many of PI Costa’s close relatives are reportedly contesting panchayat elections from Davorlim and also from Navelim Village Panchayat which is too within the jurisdiction of Margao Police Station.
Rodrigues has in his letter has further submitted that to avoid any conflict of interest and to also ensure that these elections are absolutely free and fair, it would be inappropriate that PI Costa continues heading the Margao Police Station during the elections.
Meanwhile, SEC W V Raman Murthy was not available for his reaction despite frantic effort.
