SANGUEM: The Sanguem Municipal Garden, which once served as an important meeting point for senior citizens, and for children to spend their evenings outdoors, is now in shambles, and needs immediate maintenance. Overgrown with shrubbery, the garden now bears a forlorn look, and has hardly any visitors as the services it once provided have been non-functional for a long time.
Two years ago, the rose garden section was rejuvenated with the support of a local businessman, but since then, there has been no upkeep.
Labourers and senior citizens would earlier visit the garden every evening to watch television and listen to news updates that were aired on the radio at the garden. Both radio and television services are now defunct, and the fountains are out-of-order as well. Local councillors Meshu D’ Costa, Fouziya Shaikh and Sangameshwar Naik visited the garden on Wednesday to take stock of the situation, and have vowed to take up the issue at the upcoming council meeting.
