With the tourist season in full swing and Diwali break, the State witnessed a massive influx of tourists over the past two weeks.
Ashok Khandeparkar, president of the Dudhsagar Tour Operators’ Association (DTOA), has appealed to the government to increase the number of jeeps by at least 40 more, in order to safeguard the livelihood of the jeep operators, and cater to the crowds of tourists that gather at the forest gate at Collem, hoping to visit
the waterfalls.
He said the DTOA has around 431 registered jeeps, but the forest
department, to safeguard the environment and according to the carrying capacity studies conducted, only permits 240. Each jeep seats seven tourists.
