An Indian seafarer was killed after the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao came under attack while sailing towards India off the east coast of Oman, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Wiper Suraj Yadav, a resident of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the MEA, 20 Indian seafarers were aboard the vessel when the attack took place. While 19 crew members were rescued, Yadav “tragically lost his life”, the ministry said.
“We condemn the attack on the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao earlier today off the east coast of Oman,” the MEA said in a statement, expressing condolences to the family of the deceased seafarer.
The Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Omani authorities to facilitate the early repatriation of the rescued Indian seafarers, the ministry said.
The MEA also thanked the Omani authorities for their assistance in the rescue operation.
Expressing concern over the continuing attacks on commercial shipping, the ministry called for dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions in the region.
The MEA said the targeting of commercial vessels, seafarers and civilian infrastructure must end and called for the restoration of free and unimpeded navigation through international waterways in the region at the earliest.
