Bicholim: A second major theft in Menkure village has sparked concern among residents, prompting Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye to approach the police and seek stronger security measures in the area.
On the seventh day of Ganesh Chaturthi, jewellery worth approximately ₹15 lakh was reportedly stolen from a house in Menkure in broad daylight.

Following the incident, Dr Shetye visited the Bicholim Police Station along with Panchayat members and local residents. He also met the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to seek information about the recent thefts and discuss measures to prevent similar incidents.
The MLA said the repeated thefts had created an atmosphere of fear among villagers and stressed the need for the cases to be investigated and the accused arrested at the earliest.
Dr Shetye urged the police to increase night patrolling in Menkure and surrounding areas. He also called for verification of tenants residing in the village as a preventive measure against such incidents.
The MLA further instructed the Police Inspector to ensure that necessary precautionary measures are taken to strengthen security in the village.
