VASCO: The second phase of Joggers Park was finally inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at Vasco on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Sawant termed the park as one of the best parks across the country built in rural areas. “I can say that nowhere can anyone find a park like this in the gram panchayat area in the entire country. This is also an example of the massive development taken up by the double engine government since 2012,” he said.
The Chief Minister recalled that the foundation stone for the Joggers Park phase I and II were laid at the hands of former Union Defence Minister late Manohar Parrikar.
”I would like to heartily offer my gratitude to the Comunidade of Chicalim who has been generous enough to offer such a huge piece of land for this project. Without support of the Comunidade this park would not have been possible. No other Comunidade in the entire state would have given so much land and I appeal to all the Comunidades across the State from this stage to help the village panchayats for such development projects that can offer large benefits to the village,” Sawant said.
Some of the important aspects of the park are that over 3,000 flower bearing and fruit bearing trees have been planted while, a library, gymnasium, amphi-theatre, food court, mahila bhavan and many other facilities and amenities have been provided there.
The Chief Minister declared that the project will be replicated in many other parts of the State. He said other panchayats too should follow the footsteps of Comunidade of Chicalim and offer similar support to their panchayats and the government. Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho said entry to the people in the park was absolutely free.
”This park will have different kinds of amenities. The best part is that it is self-sustainable as around 80,000 litres of gardening water is being generated from sewage and the electricity is generated from garbage,” Godinho said.
