The Medical Council of India (MCI) approved the additional seats for the academic year 2015-16 on June 30, after several days of speculation over grant of permission owing to incomplete infrastructure at the college.
The first found of admissions by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) had restricted admissions to MBBS degree course to 100 seats pending MCI’s notification. Asia’s first medical college was finally sanctioned the provisional seats for the third consecutive year only after an assurance to the ministry that it will complete the construction of an additional lecture room, auditorium for students and three new classrooms with increased capacity by August.
Officials told Herald that along with the filling of the vacant MBBS seats, the DTE would also fill in the remaining seats for homeopathy and engineering degree courses at Bachelor of Homeopathy Medicine & Surgery College and Shree Rayeshwar Institute of Engineering and Information Technology.
Meanwhile, the DTE has revised the schedule for the second round of admission by extending it to four days, from July 27-30, which earlier was slated from July 27-29.
