PANJIM: Since the State is falling short of police personnel, the government has decided to reduce the security cover provided to VIPs including politicians, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the State Assembly on Wednesday. According to information tabled in the House on a question by independent MLA Rohan Khaunte, the government is facing 46 percent shortage of traffic police. The sanctioned strength of the traffic cell is 522, while the present strength is only 329. I don’t use escorts and hence they are deployed without any work. We have decided to reduce the security cover of VIPs. Nearly 30 security personnel would be shifted out from the security duty and deployed on crime investigation duty,” Parrikar said.
