PANJIM: Tech giant Apple has revealed a serious security flaw in iPhones, iPads, and Macs that could give hackers full admin access to your device. Tech security experts are warning that everyone should update any Apple device they have immediately. Apple said on Wednesday that there are serious security vulnerabilities for iPhones, iPads and Macs that could potentially allow attackers to take complete control of these devices.
According to the company the issue may already have been “actively exploited”. Apple’s issues security updates multiple times a year.
Without the latest update, a hacker could wrest total control of Apple devices, allowing the intruder to impersonate the true owner and run any software in their name.
According to a dealer in Apple products in Goa, there are approximately 50, 000 Apple device users in Goa who are using Macs, iPads, iPhone and iPods. The Apple alert extends to all product groups.
Savio Fonseca is the first certified Apple engineer in India since 2004. He was a pioneer in Apple sales and service in Goa since 1999. According to him, “If Apple users update their devices – they risk making their older devices slow. And older the device – slower it will run simply because the hardware of some years ago is not designed to run operating systems and applications of today. This situation can evolve into reducing the usability of the device and the user would end up purchasing a new alternative more frequently than those who do not update their devices.”
He further added that in the tech industry this is called forced obsolescence and this has been in practice either through design or default to the disadvantage of the user.
Savio Fonseca further said, “I myself use a 12-year-old Mac without issues and have a number of my clients who follow my practices of tech usage. The solution to using tech devices over a long period of time is never to update your system. However, the threshold of updating ones system is when your bank forces you to update so as to continue your online banking transactions.”
In India more people are buying iPhones than ever before, helping Apple increase its footprint in the world’s second-most populous country.
In fact, Apple has doubled its business in India in fiscal 2021, which shows how important emerging markets have become for the Cupertino giant in the long run.
“We set quarterly records in every geographic segment with strong double-digit growth across the board” and that during fiscal 2021, we earned nearly one-third of our revenue from emerging markets” and “doubled our business in India and Vietnam,” Apple CEO Tim Cook had told media soon after the company reported results for the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2021.
