PANJIM: The Salesian Society of Goa (SSG) has clarified that the security personnel involved in an alleged incident at Nerul were sent to prevent trespass of miscreants into the property that was duly granted to them by the local comunidade for setting up an educational institution.
SSG has further clarified that when the temporary possession of the plots in question was handed over to the Society, the land was totally vacant and there were no structures whatsoever on those plots.
SSG in a communiqué said that the Salesian Society was granted an ‘aforamento’ (emphyteusis) of land (survey numbers 95/1 and 91/1) belonging to the Nerul Comunidade with the condition that they would be granted final possession only if the land was used for the purpose it was granted. The temporary possession of these two plots was handed over on April 11, 2014.
Since taking over temporary possession on April 11, 2014, GSS’ said that it was in peaceful possession of these two plots. Thereafter it obtained conversion sanad and all requisite permissions and licenses from the respective authorities for constructing an academic centre, sports facilities and a compound wall on these two plots.
Since miscreants were attempting to encroach upon the land recently, GSS had engaged some security personnel and sent them to the site to prevent encroachment.
Subsequently, apprehending a breach of peace, tranquillity and communal harmony in the locality, the Bardez deputy collector directed the parties to maintain status quo at the locality. However, in utter contempt of the status quo order, some miscreants criminally trespassed into the two plots, says the communiqué issued by Fr Bennett Aranjo of SSG.
