PANJIM: Goa Police have stepped up security following an intelligence alert that 10 terrorists have entered India from Pakistan through Kutch in Gujarat to launch attacks in different parts of the country, including Goa.
It is learnt that an attack is planned in Panjim, along with 10 other major cities across India.
“Goa Police is on high alert. Special Branch has been activated after receiving intelligence inputs of a terror threat from the central agencies. The information is that the suspected terrorists have entered through Kutch border,” a senior IPS officer said.
The threat comes a day before counting of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) polls will be held on Tuesday when thousands of people will be gathered outside the counting centre at the Pharmacy College.
The officer stated that patrolling has been intensified while important places have been kept under watch. “We have formed different teams and roped in the Anti Terrorist Squad to assist the force in the security exercise. Though the advisory mentions Panjim, the department has tightened security in the entire State,” he said.
Goa is set to witness another major event – Shigmotsav – in the next
few days.
