PANJIM: Ahead of the onset of the monsoons and the Kharif season, the Directorate of Agriculture has made arrangements to support farmers and ensure a successful a farming season. Farmers can avail of high-quality paddy seeds, vegetable varieties, grafts and equipment from the Agriculture department.
The varieties of paddy seeds which will be available to farmers are Jaya, Jyothi, and Karjat at all seed outlets across the state, at a 50 percent subsidy. Farmers are advised to replace their paddy seeds every three years to achieve higher yields.
Additionally, seeds of various vegetable varieties are available to the public at a 50 percent subsidy, encouraging kitchen gardening.
For the ploughing of fields and crop cultivation, tractors are available for farmers at 50% subsidized hire rates through Zonal Agriculture Offices. Paddy seedling transplanters are also offered at 50 percent rental charges, making advanced agricultural machinery accessible, according to a press release by the agriculture department.
