Selaulim dam overflows, but visitors not allowed

SANGUEM: The Selaulim Dam at Sanguem began to overflow on Friday morning, bringing to life the enchanting beauty of water cascading through the reservoir’s distinctive duckbill spillway.

When the dam begins to overflow, the spillway offers a stunning view of a large body of water falling from a considerable height, drawing a huge number of visitors to witness the spectacle.

Officials from the Water Resources Department at Pajimol said that the water reached a height of 41.15 metres, and began to overflow at 10.54 am. They also stated that last year, the water began to overflow on July 13, but the incessant rain has advanced it by five days this year.

The entry to the viewing area of the dam however has been closed for security reasons and no visitors are allowed on the upper walkway. The Horticulture garden on the other side of the dam is however open to visitors. People have urged the government to open the dam area for visitors, as it is only during the first three months that the overflowing water is in full spate , and can be fully appreciated by visitors.
