Select your own candidate, PC tells Ponda Congress workers

Says party workers should decide names of probable candidates, the party will accordingly take decision to select one candidate based on criteria of his loyalty, integrity, acceptance to workers and winning capacity

PONDA: Guiding the Ponda Congress Party booth level   workers on selection of candidates for the constituency, senior Congress leader and Goa Desk In-Charge P Chidambaram on Sunday said that the party will entrust the responsibility on the workers. 

“The party workers should decide the names of probable candidates. The party will accordingly take decision to select one candidate based on the criteria of his loyalty, integrity, acceptance to the workers and winning capacity,” said Chidambaram. 

He said, “Once the candidate of their choice is selected, they should stand solid rock behind their candidate for his victory.” 

He promised that the freedom will be given to Goans to select Medium of Instruction, will scrap Three Linear Projects and not allow Goa to be a coal hub.

Without taking the name, Chidambaram also advised Aam Aadmi Party national supremo to first solve the pollution and unemployment issues in Delhi. 

He assured to protect the unique identity of Goa saying Goans are the most affectionate people in the country. 

“Congress has preserved unity of the country and committed to protect the diverse culture, religions etc.,” he added.

He also promised that the party would not repeat the 2017 mistake and the moment party cross the majority, within five minutes will stake claim for forming the government.

The meeting was attended by Goa Election Observer Dinesh Gundu Rao, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, South Goa Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar, Ponda Block Chief John Pereira and Ponda leader Rajesh Verenkar. However, sitting Ponda MLA Ravi Naik was absent.

Rao said, “BJP is only working for the rich. When Congress was in power it provided petrol, diesel at a subsidised rate with an intention that the common man should not suffer while BJP is profit making by rising fuel prices which does not affect the rich but the common man as the prices of essential commodities are beyond their reach after increase in hefty hike of fuel prices. Congress is the party that carry people of all religions, caste together.” 

“BJP cheated the people by not fulfilling its promises. Corruption increased during the BJP rule,” Rao alleged.

He said, “Threat has been posed to the country’s unity due to hate and communal politics of the BJP. He said the BJP only gives promises but never fulfil it.”
