The incident came to light when some passerby saw the body in the salt pan lake at Agar Vado and alerted others. Shawn Martins, who was passing by, stopped and alerted Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, who rushed to the site and called the DySP North. Ward Member Matias D’Souza also rushed to the site.
Calangute police team led by PSI Manguesh Volvoikar rushed to the site and took stock of the situation. A fire brigade was called to fish out the body from the waters of the salt pan lake. A large number of people had gathered at the site.
Fire service team from Pilerne fished out the body and handed it over to the Calangute police. The body had some scars on the face and back. It was later sent to GMC in Bambolim.
DySP North Nelson Albuquerque and other officials also rushed to the site.
Speaking to media persons, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said: “It looks like a suspected murder, as the body had some scars and the footwear was found near the salt pan. The police needs to investigate the case thoroughly.”
Meanwhile, the Calangute police have registered a case of unnatural death.
