PANJIM: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party’s (MGP) silence on various controversial decisions of the government has gained sympathy from the Shiv Sena.
Though both have a pro-Marathi ideology and Hindu nationalism, Shiv Sena has ruled out merging with the MGP ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections.
“We have sympathy for the MGP but it doesn’t mean the party (Shiv Sena) will align with it now. Our ideologies match,” MP and editor of party mouthpiece Saamna, Sanjay Raut said on Wednesday.
He also extended his support to RSS chief in Goa Subhash Velingkar and Ratnakar Lele’s views on the pro-regional language battle. “Their demands are logical,” he said referring to the demands to withdraw grants to English medium primary schools in Goa.
With the 2017 elections approaching, Raut said Shiv Sena will contest 22 seats. As part of its strategy, the party will focus on eradicating the drug menace and international mafia in illicit activities dominating the coastal belt. “BJP is not doing its work,” he said.
