VASCO: Taking serious cognizance of the alleged assault incident where in an 88-year-old woman from Vasco was allegedly assaulted and manhandled by her daughter-in-law, the All Goa Senior Citizens Federation (AGSCF) has demanded justice to the victim woman.
In a letter to Mormugao Deputy Collector as well as other senior police officials of South Goa, AGSCF said that they were upset with the police for not registering the complaints of senior citizens.
In its letter, the AGSCF said that the police as part of their routine works register even grievous hurt or most serious injuries as non-cognizable offence and advise the victims to approach the court of law.
Giving an example of a case of physical torture to an 88-year-old woman (identity withheld) from Vasco, AGSCF said that the said victim was manhandled by her daughter-in-law (identity withheld) and despite of her medical report about injury to shoulder, hand and hip bone, Vasco police failed to take any action against the accused person.
“The federation condemns this assault and regret the inaction by Vasco police.
The Federation would also like to urge to the SP South Goa, Deputy Collector Mormugao to intervene and decide whether the police officials concerned have played their role well as required by law. Also, an inquiry should be initiated in the matter and efforts should be made to provide justice to the victim woman” AGSCF wrote in its complaint to South Goa SP.
Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo informed that the police have already registered the case as a cognizable offence under Section 325 of IPC and efforts are being made to file an indictment in the case in a week.
