Vasco: Senior citizens took out a silent march on Sunday in order to express their concern over increasing concrete constructions at the famous Jogger’s Park at Chicalim.
The park, which is visited by mostly children and elderly people from Chicalim and nearby areas, has been temporarily closed for the past few months. The second phase of the park’s development is currently underway and multiple concrete constructions are being built thus damaging the greenery in the park.
“First they cut the hills in the name of development and are now destroying the green Jogger’s Park. There is a need to reopen the park soon as many locals come here to spend quality time,” said Bebindo Fernandes.
“The locals had planted trees in the park and but they have been destroyed now,” said one of the march participants Devang Mehta.
“I planted two mango saplings there and would water them everyday, from my own water bottle,” said a retired defence employee.
In a recently held Chicalim gram sabha, the advisor informed locals that a food court, a child care centre and a stage would be developed and later handed over to a private enterprise to look after.
