PANJIM: Dharmendra Sharma, IAS, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner of India (ECI), New Delhi visited the State from to review special summary revision of electoral rolls 2024, training of officials, law and order and other subjects related to preparation for upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Sharma was accompanied by Deputy Election Commissioner R K Gupta and Senior Principal Secretary Narendra Butolia. During their three–day visit, they held a meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer, both the District Collectors and Superintendent of Police of both the districts.
Sharma suggested the officials to have a robust training mechanism in place for all the officials part of 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He suggested many provisions under which the State can use to purify the electoral rolls. He also discussed on law and order situation and demands of Goa Police nodal officers especially in reference to demands of Central forces and directed the police officials to have a strict vigil for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
A presentation was also showed highlighting the comparison of 2019 Lok Sabha and the current demands of 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The preparation of districts were reviewed in detail, however, the senior deputy election commissioner asked both the Collectors to monitor activities in the field.
Sharma also suggested to collect certificates from all field officials on dead/duplicate voters and submit the same in a time-bound manner. The Goa Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ramesh Verma was also suggested by senior officials of the Election Commission of India and urged to discuss with district teams on weekly basis.
