Sensitisation session on dengue held for Mormugao councillors

VASCO: The Mormugao Block Level Committee for Vector Borne Diseases Control on Monday organised a sensitisation session on dengue emerging challenge, for the newly elected councillors of the Mormugao Municipal Council and the village panchayat secretaries of the taluka.

This decision was taken at the meeting of the Block Committee chaired by Dattaraj K. Gauns Dessai, Deputy Collector Mormugao. Dr Rashmi Khandeparkar Health Officer Urban Health Centre Vasco presented the status report of the city and stated that there is an urgent need for active co-operation from the public to fight the spread of dengue.

The meeting discussed in detail the implications of the rise in breeding sites, increase in dengue cases, poor implementation of preventive measures at residential and commercial locations, lack of supervision at construction sites and non-co-operation from some contractors in preparing the health cards for labour.

The Committee also decided to have a separate meeting with officials from Goa Shipyard, MPT, South Western Railways, Goa IDC and NHAI to discuss a prevention action plan to tackle the rise of the vector borne disease in the taluka. 

The meeting was attended by Dr Socorro Quadros Health Officer PHC Cortalim, Dr Samita B Gauns Health Officer PHC Cansaulim, Pritesh Naik Labour Inspector, Hassan I. Khan NGO representative, Roland Martins Coordinator GOACAN and representatives from the PWD & BDO offices.
