The first event saw former MGP leader Eknath Nagvekar, panch member Ana Maria D’Souza and members of the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Memorial Trust (BBMT) offer floral tributes, while the second saw Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Calangute ZP member Shawn Martins and panch members of Nagoa-Arpora and Candolim do the same.
BBMT President Filipe Dias later assured to hold only one function next time to avoid insulting “the great leader of Goa”.
“Bhausaheb Bandodkar was a true leader of Goans, especially the downtrodden and poor. His initiative allowed tenants to own a house, etc through the Mundkarial Law. However, today the poor farmers are struggling to get their due shares as the mundkarial cases have been transferred to Courts and are pending for long. I request the Chief Minister, Laxmikant Parsekar, to transfer the cases back to the mamlatdar offices and appoint an officer to dispose of them at the earliest to give respect to the great leader,” said Lobo
Calangute social worker Rajendra Korgaonkar said, “Offering floral tributes to the great leader at two separate functions does not augur well, and we should avoid repetition in the future. We should keep politics aside while organising functions to pay homage to great leaders of Goa.”
On the sidelines of the function, BBMT President Dias stated, “I will try my best to convince everyone to hold a single function for the late chief minister of Goa, who was an exemplary leader of Goans. At the end of the day, the name of our village of Calangute is being tarnished for no good reason.”
