PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that a separate ward is being set up only for cases where patients have COVID-19 and black fungus disease.

“In view of the cases related to black fungus we are dedicating a separate ward of 20 beds to specifically deal with cases of COVID along with black fungus,” Rane tweeted on Friday.

Earlier in the day, while responding to a query from media persons about the death of a patient at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) who had black fungus, Rane said that the patient had passed away due to severe COVID and black fungus.

The Health Minister further tweeted about future infrastructure plans.

“Work has already begun on commissioning the 60-bedded paediatric intensive care unit. This is extendable and can be increased to a capacity of 100 beds. We are getting our infrastructure ready to deal with other complicated cases due to the new strain of COVID,” Rane tweeted.

“Parallel to this, we are also planning to commission a full-fledged Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Super-Specialty Block, which is the need of the hour. Our team is working hard to save lives with prime focus on reducing mortality, state-of-the-art treatment, prophylaxis treatment and to contain the surge,” said Rane in his tweet.

The Health Minister also spoke about his virtual interaction with Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to discuss the COVID situation in the State.

“We presented our suggestions, requirements and statistics, received valuable guidance from the Centre on areas we need to focus on. @drharshvardhan Ji has always being supportive in all our agendas. We shall overcome this pandemic under the guidance and support of our Hon’ble Union Health Minister,” Rane tweeted.

The Health Minister further informed that the patients infected with COVID-19 and black fungus will now be bifurcated in the hospitals.
