MARGAO: Claiming discrimination and injustice to ‘Romi Lipi’, the gram sabhas of Seraulim and Sao Jose De Areal passed resolutions demanding equal recognition for Konkani in the Roman script alongside Devanagari.
This is significant, as prior to this, 33 other gram sabhas had passed similar resolutions pushing for Romi Konkani.
Reacting to this development, Global Konknni Forum president Kennedy Afonso thanked the members of the two gram sabhas and pointed out that the Anjuna gram sabha had also passed a similar resolution on Sunday.
The two gram sabhas of Seraulim and Sao Jose De Areal also passed resolutions opposing the hosting of the Sunburn festival in South Goa.
At Sao Jose Areal gram sabha, Peter Viegas, a member of the Save Old Goa Action Committee, urged the government to prepare a Heritage Master Plan for the Heritage Site at Old Goa before the Exposition of St Francis Xavier.
Viegas demanded that this master plan should have all the facilities such as parking, security, safety, health, roads, electricity, water, emergency, etc, and also demarcate the 300 m Heritage zone as per the National Monument Act.
Activist Freddy Travasso highlighted alleged irregularities in real estate projects in Sao Jose de Areal and demanded that the government clear its stance on such projects.
Various civic issues were discussed at the gram sabhas.
