Seraulim opposes petrol pump along Colva road

MARGAO, MARCH 21 The gram sabha of Seraulim village on Sunday opposed the petrol pump coming along the Colva road and demanded revocation of the NOCs issued to the project. The gram sabha meeting held on Sunday saw agitated members demanding to know the delay in revoking the NOCs and asked the Panchayat secretary to write to the concerned authorities regarding Sunday's decision.

The gram sabha of Seraulim village on Sunday opposed the petrol pump coming along the Colva road and demanded revocation of the NOCs issued to the project.
The gram sabha meeting held on Sunday saw agitated members demanding to know the delay in revoking the NOCs and asked the Panchayat secretary to write to the concerned authorities regarding Sunday’s decision.
The agitated members gave the Panchayat secretary and the body, seven days time to intimate the authorities on the decision adopted by the gram sabha.
Members contended that the petrol pump, if allowed, would turn out a health hazard for the villagers saying in the vicinity. They also questioned how a petrol pump can be set up in low lying areas and water bodies.
After much discussions, the gram sabha rejected the petrol pump project, with clear directions to the secretary to intimate the authorities
Meanwhile, the gram sabha meeting discussed the garbage situation in the village, with members questioning the elected panchas the fate of the garbage dumping sites.
The members were later informed that the two sites identified by the Panchayat did not find favour with the Goa Pollution Control Board as they were found close to the water bodies.
Panch Polly D’Cruz suggested to the members to help identify any land available in the village for garbage segregation and composting on the lines of Betalbatim village.
It was later decided that members of the Development Committee along with the Panchayat body would visit the village to identify a suitable site for garbage dumping and composting.
