MARGAO: The Seraulim gram sabha passed a resolution seeking a ban on the use of EVMs for elections and for carrying out the voting process through ballot papers only. It may be recalled that earlier the Carmona gram sabha had passed such a resolution. At the Seraulim gram sabha it was decided to write to the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking a ban on use of EVMs.
Another major discussion at the gram sabha was about opposition to the plans of the Railway authorities to shut down the railway crossing gates given that the subway had been constructed.
However, locals pointed out that the subway gets water-logged even during light rains and that it gets flooded during the monsoon.
It was resolved that the railways first take steps to repair the subway. Some concerns were also raised about discrepancies in the land acquisition done by the Railways on the western side of the track.
Another issue raised was the problems caused by fish retail vendors when the wholesale fish market shuts at Fatorda given that such vendors come to the narrow roads of Seraulim, which leads to traffic congestion in the village.
There was also a call for the authorities to take action against alleged illegal land filling activity taking place in the village.
