Seraulim underpass work to resume soon

MARGAO: Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao laid foundation stone for the development of the railway underpass, at Seraulim, on Saturday.

On the occasion, Churchill informed that this is a long overdue work which couldn’t start because of the COVID pandemic lockdown.

He said, “I had promised the people that if I get elected, I will get the underpass work passed. People have elected me with a big margin of votes.”

“I pursued the matter with the former railway minister Suresh Prabhu and he sanctioned it instantly,” said Churchill. The work is estimated at Rs 10.60 crore of which Rs 7 crore have been contributed by the State and remaining by the Central government. The underpass was necessary as the people had to wait for one hour or more sometimes for crossing.

Churchill thanked the Chief Minister for sanctioning finance for the work.

Sarpanch Jilu Fernandes also thanked the Chief Minister and Churchill. The PWD team has assured that the problems of water-logging won’t arise as the water table is low and will set up a mechanism for pumping out water if the problem persists.
