Seraulim VP urges Collector to take action against illegal vendors

Says they are creating a lot of inconvenience to the vehicles and passers-by

SERAULIM: Seraulim panchayat on Tuesday urged the South Goa District Collector to initiate stern action against the illegal fish and other vendors selling their wares near the Western Bypass road near the Margao Wholesale fish market within their jurisdiction.

In his letter written to the South Goa District Collector Seraulim sarpanch Leslie Dourado has invited the attention of the District Magistrate to the nuisance posed.

Dourado remarked, ‘They are creating a lot of inconvenience to the vehicles and passers-by as there is uncontrolled selling of fish, fruits and other items with no social distancing maintained among the public. The panchayat has made several attempts, Dourado claimed to clear the same but without any results.

“We need the help of the police so that strict action is taken in this regard in clearing the entire stretch in the jurisdiction of the Seraulim village panchayat. I kindly request your office to please look into this matter and take necessary action to clear the road or deploy police personnel during the morning session,” said the Seraulim sarpanch.

Speaking to Herald, Dourado divulged, “The panchayat has complained to the Colva police regarding the fish vendors squatting near the bridge of the recently constructed Western Bypass generating crowds of purchasers violating the COVID social distancing norms. Although the police chase them away, they come back to the site later.”
