Serpentine queues at collectorate irks public

MARGAO: Long queues at the South Goa district collectorate for works related to ration cards and government medical insurance cover have irked the public.

People are regularly found waiting in long queues to collect medical insurance forms and also for applying for corrections of their new ration cards.
Residents make time to visit the collectorate, but the queue is so long that it spirals out of the office into the lobby area. People complained that they had come to the office at 12 pm and had to leave when the officials closed the counter at 1 pm for lunch.
People lamented that when various government offices were shifted to the late Mathany Saldanha administrative building, people had expected that their works would be done promptly and without any hassle.
“However, what we witness is a long and serpentine queues of people, including woman carrying children and even infants and senior citizens, with application forms and enquiries for ration cards etc,” said an aggrieved resident from Chandor.
People waiting in queues complained that they reach the office early in the morning and that they are forced to make multiple trips due to the negligence of the staff in making correct entries in new ration card as per the old one.
