PANJIM: The investigation into the alleged plots scam is proceeding at an unexpectedly fast pace with the former administrator Irene Sequeira being summoned and questioned today. Tomorrow, there are likely to be more statements recorded in the case, which has already seen eight arrests including a panchayat secretary who at one time happened to be the attorney of the panchayat.
Also today a group of gaunkars filed a complaint with the Porvorim police station alleging that there are vested interests involved in pressurizing the president of the Communidade to make a complaint that his signature on the minutes book of the communidade was forged.
Initially, the Crime Branch sleuths had arrested six persons allegedly for misappropriation of funds of the Serula Communidade.
According to sources they refused to cooperate with the investigation team and allegedly tried to mislead officials, so they were arrested.
Later another two were arrested – Peter Martins and Mohan Narvekar. However, Agnelo Lobo has not been arrested.
The Serula Comunidade has to face allegations that it had not maintained records of allotment of comunidade lands or records of cash transfers. An interim report to the government had given indications that there could have been misappropriation of several crores of rupees.
The audit report had also found that allotment details of comunidade land were not maintained while information of the total number of plots, leased plots and the vacant plots were also not available.
It had also pointed out to the poor response it had received from the Administrator of Comunidades North Goa as also the managing committee of the comunidade, which did not reply to either of the letters sent by the auditors.
