“When we started this service, we wanted to employ those that were without work,” Nilesh Cabral, GTDC chairman told media Friday, adding that the women complaining against the corporation were doing so because of “some personal grudge”.
Commenting that GTDC were only facilitators of the service run by the Mumbai based Green Earth Translogistics Pvt Ltd (GETPL), Managing Director, Nikhil Dessai said plans were also underway to include six more female taxi drivers. He also said that the corporation was transparent in its workings and received only 5 per cent of the amount earned by GETPL.
“4,000 people have already used the service since it began last October and it is only three disgruntled employees that are misleading the media and the people. What is wrong if we spend money in advertising for the service? If it is helping Goan women in getting jobs, I say we should advertise even more,” Dessai said.
Currently nine women employed with the department drive taxis around the State and have undergone a month’s training before taking to the wheel.
