PANJIM: The government on Friday terminated the services of the former general manager of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) after it found substance to back the charges against him.
William Borges has been under suspension for over a year now and faced charges of misusing his position to allot industrial plots to his family members. It is, however, not known whether the government will now go ahead and prosecute him.
Borges currently has a vigilance inquiry that is on against him.
According to a complaint before the Vigilance Department, he had hatched a criminal conspiracy and fraudulently misused his official position, wilfully concealed facts and processed the case of Galaxy Plast-O-Chem Industries, a proprietary concern of Nareshkumar B Vora, under one-time settlement scheme knowing fully well that his father, Joaquim had entered into an agreement of partnership with Nita Naresh Vora, wife of Nareshkumar.
In another case case, William fraudulently misused his official position and processed the case of Tinsol Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. under one time settlement scheme with the full knowledge that his parents Joaquim and Olinda had entered into an agreement of partnership with the directors of the private limited firm.
The probe report of other GIDC officials who are currently under suspension is awaited.
