BICHOLIM: The family members of Sesa Goa workers from Bicholim and Mayem on Saturday met the Bicholim and Mayem MLAs at their respective offices and submitted a memorandums demanding immediate resumption of mining.

The women told the MLAs that their lives have become difficult after the closure of mining and that they were finding it difficult to even meet their basic needs. They demanded that the government should intervene and solve their problems.
“We are suffering after the closure of mining and there is no other source of income for us and so the government should try and restart mining,” the women demanded.
Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar assured the families that they were doing their best to solve the problems of the mining affected people. “We understand the suffering of the mining affected families and our government is doing its best to resolve the issue,” Patnekar said.
He also informed that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar would also meet the Prime Minister in this regard. “The chief minister will soon meet the PM in this regard and seek solution to this problem which is affecting the state,” Patnekar informed.
Sesa Goa workers have been agitating since a long time in Bicholim. They also sat on hunger strike which they withdrew after AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik assured them that the mining would resume from October.
Later a massive rally was also held in Bicholim where thousands of mining dependents had participated.
