BICHOLIM: The Sesa Goa workers on Friday held a massive rally in Bicholim to press for their demands including recognition of their leader Ajitsingh Rane and to revoke the suspension order of 17 workers threatening the company to intensify the agitation.
At least 3000 people participated in the rally who include the workers and their families. Several panchayats including Pilgao, Mayem and Mulgao, political parties and other associations also supported the rally. Later a public meeting was held at Mayem.
On the occasion, Sesa Mining Corporation Employees Union President Bala Gori warned that if their demands were not met they would resort to violent means.
Environmentalist Ramesh Gawas accused the company of adopting a divide-and-rule policy. “Sesa mining is still operating legally and the political parties are supported financially by the mining companies,” Gawas said. He also accused the company of siphoning off the profits outside the State without sharing it with the workers.
Union leader Ajitsingh Rane claimed that the government was against the workers.
