BICHOLIM: The Sesa Goa Employees Union Saturday staged a massive morcha in Bicholim paralysing traffic at many places.
After the High Court passed an order in its favour, the company commenced mining on Saturday. Around 500 Sesa workers who learnt of the same, rushed to the spot and stopped the operation.
Labour leader Ajitsingh Rane and environmentalist, Ramesh Gawas were also present at the site. The workers shouted anti-government slogans claiming that the government was supporting the company. The workers vowed that they would not allow the company to resume the work till their leader, Ajitsingh Rane is recognized.
Later, they held a rally through Bicholim halting the traffic at several places. A strong police force was also deployed at the site to avoid untoward incident.
On the occasion, labour leader said that the government was not bothered about the workers and was working under the pressure of the mining lobby.
Meanwhile, the management of Sesa Mining Corporation Limited said in a statement that “Our employees who wanted to resume duty have started operations at the Bicholim mine. The management has revoked the suspension order at the mine on November 17. We remain committed to a resolution through dialogue and urge the employees to restore normalcy.”
