Set final deadline to resolve Mayem custodian issue, Samiti demands

BICHOLIM: The Mayem Bhoo Vimochan Nagrik Kruti Samiti on Saturday demanded that the government set a final deadline to resolve the custodian issue and warned it against delaying the sanad process.

Addressing a press conference, Samiti Secretary Rajesh Kalangutkar accused the government of delaying the process of giving sanads to the Mayem locals.

“The custodian issue is pending for a long time and the BJP government came up with the Abolition of Proprietorship Act 2014 as we had high hopes that the matter would be resolved. But till date it is still pending and we have not got our rights,” Kalangutkar claimed.

“Each time we approach the media, the government tries to give an impression that they are looking into the matter by providing false assurances,” he claimed.

“We were to approach the President during his visit to the State but because of the assurances by the Chief Minister and others we believed them but after January 26, they did not meet us,” he added.

“We want to tell the government that they should now give us a final deadline as to when this issue will be resolved,” he demanded.

Kalangutkar claimed that the government had failed to touch upon several issues pertaining to houses, surrounding land, farms and others. The Samiti has demanded Class One rights for the Mayem locals.

Samiti Advisor Sakharam Pednekar informed that they have now decided to create awareness among the youth.

“We have consulted our MLA and have decided to have meetings in the village from February 9. Till date 1,140 files have been submitted to the government and only 282 sanads have been issued. It is high time that the government should now give us a deadline to resolve the issue,” Pednekar demanded.

The Samiti will hold 10 meetings in several parts of the village to focus on the issue and make the villagers aware that the government is trying to delay the issue.
