MARGAO: The Shadow Council (SCM) for Margao today urged the Margao Municipal Council to set its priorities in order. Criticising the council for failing to provide proper power backup, SCM convener Savio Coutinho blasted the Council for putting the general public into the inconvenience of standing in queue for hours together.
It may be noted that the entire system of the Council is shut down at the time of power failures, thereby totally hampering the process of issuing of birth/death certificate, house tax payments and so also the other systems in the various sections of the Council.
Coutinho stated that the Council has the audacity to announce the collection/extortion of crores of rupees from loyal taxpayers of Margao, but exhibit themselves as paupers who cannot afford a generator or maintain invertors. With the frequent power failures, the public have to helplessly wait in queue till the supply is restored.
Senior citizen Mohan Nadkarni lamented over the absence of separate queue for senior citizens. While Menino Fernandes complained over the waste of time.
