MAPUSA: Burglars targeted the Civil Supplies godown situated at Tuem, Pernem and decamped with rice weighing 550 kgs valued at Rs 17,952.
Pernem police said that the miscreants broke open the back shutter of the godwon and took away 11 bags of rice.
The incident came to light on Thursday morning when one of the locals saw the broken shutter of the godown. The Pernem police were later informed about the incident.
Investigating Officer PSI Sagar Dhatkar informed that 11 bags of rice, each weighing 50 kg, were missing from the warehouse.
“We received a call at around 9.20 am on Friday saying that the shutter of the godown was broken. During investigation it was revealed that the godown was shut on Wednesday at 5.45 pm and not opened the following day. On Friday morning, it was noticed by the locals that the shutter was broken open,” he said.
The police have registered an offence under Section 454, 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code.
