Seven Maoists were reported to have been killed in an encounter with District Reserve Group (DRG) personnel along the inter-district border of Narayanpur, Dantewada, and Kondagaon in Chhattisgarh.
Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar confirmed the operation, stating that weapons have been recovered and the operation is still underway. The bodies of the seven Maoists were discovered at the encounter site.
The encounter occurred during a joint anti-Maoist operation conducted by DRG teams from Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Dantewada, and Jagdalpur, in collaboration with the 45th Battalion of ITBP, in the Abujhmad area. The Maoists initiated the attack, firing upon the security forces, who swiftly retaliated.
Three Jawans of the Narayanpur DRG sustained injuries during the encounter and were airlifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
This incident follows earlier instances of Maoist activity in the region, including the torching of a mobile tower in Durmi village in Narayanpur district on June 2, and an encounter on May 25 where two Maoists were killed in the forests of Jappemarka and Kamkanar in Bijapur.
Maoist extremism remains a persistent challenge in Chhattisgarh, owing to the dense forests and difficult terrain that provide favorable conditions for Maoist groups to operate and establish their bases.
