MARGAO: A major tragedy was averted as several passengers from Goa sustained injuries after a private bus in which they were travelling turned turtle at Jamboti, Karnataka. All the passengers were on the way to attend a wedding.
As informed by the driver of the bus Shrikant Kholkar, he lost control as the steering rod broke.
Upon hearing the news Mahesh Amonkar, councillor from Khareband-Margao along with few others rushed at the site on Monday morning, as most of the passengers were from his ward.
“After inquiry it has been informed that the accident was reported between 3.30 and 4 am at Jamboti, Karnataka. The bus was heading towards Baillur in Karnataka for a wedding celebration,” he informed.
Seven got hand injuries and few escaped with minor injuries.
As informed by councillor Amonkar, few of the passengers have been brought back to Goa for further treatment.
“On Sunday I had noticed the bus moving to Karnataka, but later in the wee hours of Monday received a call informing me that the bus turned turtle. Upon reaching the site necessary help was provided to the needy passengers, wherein Khanapur police too helped a lot,” said Amonkar.
