CALANGUTE: Despite a ban on swimming during monsoon, several tourists, who had ventured into rough sea over the weekend, were saved from drowning by the lifeguards on duty at Calangute-Baga.
In the first incident, two young couples from Mumbai had waded into the waters off Baga Beach. Suddenly, a rapid undercurrent pulled the two women in the group into the deep waters. Lifeguards on duty rushed to their aid with a rescue tube and surfboard. One of those rescued by the lifeguards suffered from breathing issues and was immediately moved to the Candolim Primary Health Centre (PHC).
At Calangute beach, two teens from a group of five young males from Karnataka were suddenly swept into the deep waters by the strong waves, while three others managed to swim to safety. However, the lifeguards safely brought the duo to the shore.
In another incident at Calangute beach, a 19-year-old male from Bihar was swept away by strong currents, while another teen from Karnataka, who was engulfed by an enormous wave, was unable to swim back to shore. The lifeguards safely brought both teenagers individuals to shore using a rescue tube and surfboards.
