Sewage overflow, potholes pose threat to motorists in Margao, surrounding areas

MARGAO: Gushing of sewage water from the sewage chambers and huge potholes; filled with rain water on the roads at many places has resulted in major threat to the motorist in Margao and in surrounding areas.

And hence, commuters have demanded for safety measures before motorists suffer casualties. As informed by the citizens, several motorists have already suffered injuries due to fall on their roads as a result of overflowing chambers and potholes which cannot be spotted.

Two days before, one lady from Arlem suffered major knee injuries as she fell down with the two-wheeler trying to avoid the overflowing sewage chamber at Arlem in the middle of the road. Later, she was shifted to a nearby clinic for treatment, informed Rosario Colaco, a resident of Raia.

Similarly, nearly six incidents were reported at Borda road, near the Multipurpose High School, wherein a huge pothole has created major risk to motorists.

Drivers are witnessed trying to avoid the pothole and resulting in accidents, few bike riders were also reported suffering from injuries due to fall over here.

A stretch from South Goa District Hospital to Colva circle at old market is another spot which has become a major threat to motorists.

Repair works of the same stretch of road has been carried out since for the last few days but in vain as the continuous rainfall has made the situation from bad to worse.

Even residents of Madel, Margao, have expressed anger over the huge potholes on the roads and demanded that they be repaired immediately in order to prevent accidents.

“I have raised my voice against the bad conditions of the road in the past, but said the stretch of road is yet to be repaired. This stretch being part of national highway, hundreds of motorists and pedestrians are noticed using it on a daily basis, but now this road has become a major threat to all,” said Milagres Fernandes.
