Sewage water overflowing on roads irks Borda locals

MARGAO: Sewage water flowing onto a road in the residential area of Borda irked residents, who demanded that this issue be rectified immediately to avoid health hazards in the locality.

A choked manhole on the road led to the overflowing of sewage water onto the Borda road near St Joaquim Chapel.

Locals pointed out if not rectified immediately sewage water during the rains would be flowing down into the nearby residential areas and contaminate the groundwater.

Reportedly, complaints have been lodged of water contamination from the sewerage line network in the jurisdiction of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) and neighbouring constituencies of Navelim, Nuvem and Benaulim.

Farmers from Navelim and Nuvem have complained about their fields getting contaminated. Benaulim villagers are protesting release of treated water into the Arabian Sea from the sewerage treatment plants.
