Sewerage Dept work has left Margao roads unsafe and potholed, rue locals

MARGAO: Locals from Margao and surrounding areas have raised concern over the state of roads that have been dug up by the Sewerage Department, in view of the increasing number of accidents reported on these stretches.

“It is seen that the Sewerage Department has dug up the main roads in Madel, Borda, Fatorda and Margao too, to clear blocked sewage manholes or lines but they have not tarred these roads properly, resulting in huge potholes in the middle of the road. These mangled roads are a hazard to road-users, and two-wheeler riders in particular. The Department should see that all these potholes are filled as soon as possible,” said Madel resident Savio Dias.

While the residents of Madel have also appealed to the Sewerage Department directly, they blamed the irresponsible attitude of the Department for causing the accidents reported on these bad roads.

“We hope that better sense will prevail or the public will not let the Sewerage Department dig up any roads, as they leave them in such poor condition. We are also planning to launch a protest against such negligence of the Department,” the residents added.

Dias also gave the example of a big pothole that was created at the Dr Rebello junction in Madel, right in the centre of the road.
