PANJIM: Former Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo has demanded the resignation of the MLA from North Goa involved in the alleged sextortion and demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant intervene in the matter and ensure a thorough probe.
Ticlo reacted sharply to a video that went viral on X (erstwhile Twitter), of a sitting North Goa MLA in the alleged sextortion case stirring a hornet’s nest in the political circles of Goa.
“Today a video has become viral and it’s unbelievable to see such an act of a sitting MLA. The people of the constituency of this MLA are going to be shocked and will be wondering what is going on. I demand that the MLA should immediately resign because there’s no place for a person like this to continue in politics,” he said.
Stating that it is disgraceful for a lawmaker to continue in office, Ticlo said “After the video has gone viral, I’m getting a lot of phone calls and lots of messages.”
On the question of the video being morphed, Ticlo said, if the video was indeed morphed then the question of paying money to the extortionist doesn’t arise. “What was the need for the MLA to pay the money if he was not involved in the act? This is a clear case of a relationship gone sour,” he alleged.
State BJP spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar has also questioned whether it is a case of sextortion or a ‘full-blown’ sex scandal.
The MLA in question had complained to the police against Odisha native Kukesh Ravat alleging that he was being blackmailed by Ravat using a morphed objectionable video showing him in a compromising position with a woman.
In his complaint, the MLA informed the police that he paid Ravat Rs 5.55 lakh. However, the MLA filed the complaint as he demanded Rs 5 crore more. Ravat was arrested by police who had filed a bail application but withdrew it on Saturday.
