MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) in-principle insisted to handover the land of wholesale fish market to the Fisheries Department for a better prospect, on Friday.
However, the PDA member strongly objected to the move and instead demanded to shift the market to some other place.
Under Chairperson and Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa, a meeting was held, which was attended by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, Fatorda MLA, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, besides other members.
Speaking to the media persons, Chairperson D’Sa said that members have decided to hand over the wholesale fish market to the Fisheries Department for further development.
“We have resolved to hand over the land of wholesale fish market to the Fisheries Department, and I have already had a talk with Chief Minister with regards to the matter,” D’Sa informed.
He said members have resolved to ask the shop vendors to vacate the building that belongs to PDA at Usgao, Ponda, as the structure is in dilapidated condition. The PDA member strongly objected to the move to hand over the wholesale fish market land to the Fisheries Department.
“Actually the market itself needs to be shifted to some other place. We, as the Fatordakars want to get rid of the market.”
According to the PDA member, the government needs to come up with some IT projects on the land, which will generate jobs for the people.
Kamart has urged the PDA to verify proposal of the Fisheries Department to hand over the land.
