MARGAO: After twice postponing its implementation, the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Tuesday resolved to introduce pay parking in its retail market at Old market tentatively from August 15.
The SGPDA has also resolved to set a convention wherein applications for development permissions are disposed of by the body within 25 days.
At a meeting held on Tuesday morning, which was chaired by MLA Rajan Naik and attended by MLAs Digambar Kamat, Vijai Sardessai and Lavu Mamledar, it was resolved to introduce the pay parking concept in the market from August 15.
Addressing the media after the meeting, PDA Chairman Rajan Naik said the decision was taken after taking into confidence market vendors and representatives of NGOs. “Even the vendors have realised that the PDA intends to put the market in order,” he said.
MLA Digambar Kamat told waiting media persons the PDA took into account the views of all stakeholders. “The land opposite the Osia Complex will be developed for parking. There will be space earmarked for the vendors to park their vehicles,” he said. MLA Vijai Sardessai said there was unanimity on the need to introduce pay-parking, but only after creating the infrastructure. “It has been decided to develop a portion of the PDA land opposite Osia commercial complex for the pay-parking facility,” he added.
