MARGAO: Fish water gathered in the Wholesale Fish market will be flushed, purified and after treatment will be ejected into the River Sal as freshwater stated Member Secretary of South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA).
On Monday, the SGPDA has filed a reply before Jyoti Kumari, Deputy Collector South Goa with regard to the petition of Savio Dias, alleging concerned authorities have failed to stop the nuisance at the wholesale fish market, here.
There are no proper facilities to keep the market clean. Besides, the petitioner had brought to the notice of all the concerned authorities that fish water has been directly released into the River Sal leading to major pollution. The said market is under the jurisdiction of SGPDA.
The Member Secretary further assured that in order to prevent the fish water releasing into the river, the SGPDA will be constructing as an alleviated platform about one meter high from ground level to permit the gravitational flow from a higher level to a lower level into adjoining drains.
Forty metric tonnes of water will enter into the underground septic tanks for denitrification. The system will be planted with 500 saplings of the Canna Indica plant. After that polluted river water and the wastewater from the market, will be pumped into the septic tank where the entire 40 cubic metres of wastewater shall be purified in two tanks and released into the river Sal through the adjoining field.
The SGPDA has informed the Deputy Collector that the State government has taken an initiative through the Goa State Pollution Control Board to commence rejuvenation or purification of the polluted rivers one of them being the River Sal.
