MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) has in principle, approved the proposal for having bio-digesters for the handling of wet waste. The location of the EIA (Export Inspection Agency) and lab has also been changed to the SGPDA Wholesale Fish Market area.
At its meeting, SGPDA approved the proposal of having two bio-digesters within the SGPDA retail market areas. The Director of Municipal Administration had inspected various locations for the installation of bio- digestors and had asked for resolutions from the relevant authorities, which were approved by SGPDA. Further, a unanimous decision was taken to change the location of the EIA office and lab. “In a discussion with us, TCP minister Vijai Sardesai came to the conclusion that it would be ideal to have the lab and EIA at the wholesale fish market as this location is the centre of inter-state and intra-state fish sale and is also ideal to build confidence amongst the people, said Chairperson Renuka Da Silva.
She added that they had spoken to GSIDC and the EIA authorities. GSIDC will be responsible for creating a 700 sq mts space for the lab and EIA office and has already undertaken the work of the reconstruction of the wholesale fish market.
SGPDA has also approved the land site for the two bio-digesters to handle the wet waste. SPGPDA member and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat further informed that he had suggested increasing the rent of giving land for exhibitions. “The Authority has been charging Rs. 40 per sq mts for several years and my suggestion was to increase it to Rs. 60,” added Kamat.
SGPDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar said they are yet to demarcate the land and will later discuss increasing the rent.
